Digital Unitehas helped tens of thousands of older people engage with digital technology and learn new digital skills, and is one of the UK’s main providers of digital learning.
Digital Unite’s Digital Champion ITQ (DC ITQ) is a new e-learning syllabus, supported by online tutors, to help people develop in-depth, formal digital championing skills. The course has been designed to support digital champions from a variety of backgrounds and covers:
- How to use and employ a wide range of digital technology
- How to inspire and engage others to do the same, from absolute beginners upwards
- How to work with individuals and communities to sustain, renew and extend digital skills and learning opportunities
In addition to this, Digital Unite holds an annual Silver Surfers’ Day. This is the biggest national campaign to promote the use of digital technologies by older people. Since its launch in 2002, it is estimated over 150,000 older people have been involved.
To celebrate the tenth anniversary of Silver Surfers’ Day in 2011, the campaign was extended to a week-long activity, Spring Online. More than 2,500 digital taster events were held, with 50,000 older people taking part.
